Osler was named “National Firm of the Year” for Canada at the International Financial Law Review’s America’s Awards held in New York on March 25, 2010.

Osler continues to be one of the most frequently recognized firms in M&A and capital markets by both Bloomberg L.P. and Thomson Reuters in their 2009 year-end league tables. Osler was the top Canadian firm in “Cross-Border Announced Deals” according to Bloomberg L.P.’s Q4 league table and one of only two Canadian firms in the top 25 globally for international mergers and acquisitions as noted by Thomson Reuters.

The 2010 edition of Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business also ranks Osler Band 1 in Corporate/M&A.

Recent Transactions

Recent transactions in which we have been involved include acting for:

  • World Color Press, Inc. in its $1.4 billion business combination with Quad/Graphics, Inc.
  • Carl C. Icahn on both Canadian and U.S. matters, in his US$616 million takeover bid for Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.
  • The Bank of Nova Scotia in its US$2.5 billion fixed rate senior note offerings due 2013 and 2015

New Partners

Stephen D.A. Clark has joined Osler as a partner in the Toronto office of our Corporate Practice group. Stephen has long-standing relationships with the Canadian financial services regulators and will add further strength to our banking and financial services practice.

Osler’s Corporate Practice Group is pleased to announce three new partners who were admitted to the partnership in March 2010:

Dominic Mochrie (Toronto) - Practice focuses on franchise law, product distribution matters and trade practice law.

Neal Ross  (Calgary) - Practice focuses on M&A transactions, primarily in the energy, technology and manufacturing sectors.

Paula Trattner (Toronto) - Practice focuses on various issues for hospitals and other health care clients.
