Overview

December is a very busy month; many corporate 'year ends' and holiday event plans shorten an already busy work schedule leaving little time to collect CLE credits. Osler is here to help! We can't help with your holiday shopping but we are hosting a series of seminars to assist you in obtaining your professionalism credits. Attend any of the sessions in person at our Toronto office or join us via webinar.

Improving / Optimizing Productivity -
Too Much to Do, Too Little Time: Prioritization Strategies for Lawyers and Drowning in Email

Ann Gomez, Productivity Consultant
John MacDonald, Partner, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP

Lawyers face countless competing demands for their time and attention. It can be hard to manage expectations when you are inundated with messages and every task feels like a priority. During this double session, lawyers will learn how to take control of their work, manage priorities and handle the flow of email in the most effective way.  In the first session, we will talk about setting realistic plans, estimating work effort, protecting time and concentrating on the work at hand. We will discuss the importance of leveraging deadlines and tightening backlogs. Finally, we will address the common causes of procrastination that impact most professionals.

In the second session, lawyers will learn how to take control of their inboxes. We will discuss the Touch it Once principle, as well as other strategies for staying on top of the volume including focusing, batch and sequential processing. We will also share strategies to manage the little tasks including daily planning, task management and electronic organization. And, we will talk about straightforward strategies to clear the email backlog – regardless of whether that includes 100 or 10,000 emails.
