Pension and employee benefit design changes that will operate to reduce benefits must be carefully reviewed to ensure that these changes comply with pension regulatory requirements and that the employment/labour law implications of making the changes are properly understood and addressed.

This panel, moderated by Osler’s Ian McSweeney and featuring Jana Steele, will examine these issues through discussion of a case study in which an employer is considering implementation of a benefits rebalancing program under which certain employee pension and benefits components are to be reduced and other benefits are to be added to meet the employer’s austerity and competitive objectives.
