Hot Topic Update: Ebola – Lessons Learned from SARS
This update looks at the important lessons learned from Ontario’s SARS experience that hospital directors should consider when discharging their board’s oversight of the measures implemented to protect staff when caring for patients who may have infectious diseases.

Session 1: Balancing Professional Staff Rights and Hospitals’ Obligations to their Employees

This session will cover hospitals’ options and obligations with respect to Workplace Violence Risk Assessment and Assessing Disruptive Professional Behaviour.

Session 2: Canada Health Act: A Barrier to Patient Centric Care?

This session will look at the Canada Health Act and the impact that fiscal pressures are having on public health insurance plans. The session will include an update on the Chaoulli Decision and a discussion about whether hospitals and physicians are required to inform and provide patients an option to acquire enhanced medical services that are not insured.
