Osler Defends Largest Canadian Tobacco Company

Deborah Glendinning, Partner in Osler’s Toronto office and National Litigation Department Chair and Suzanne Côté, Partner and Head of Osler’s Montreal office litigation practice lead a multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary class actions defence team representing the largest of Canada’s three tobacco companies in a landmark $27-billion class-action lawsuit. At issue is whether tobacco companies should be held responsible for the personal smoking decisions made by smokers, who were well-informed of those risks.
