Biography

Steven Golick is a senior partner in the insolvency and restructuring group of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt. He practises in the areas of bankruptcy, insolvency, debtor/creditor, secured transactions, workouts and restructurings. He advises financial institutions, trustees/receivers, secured and unsecured creditors, debtors and purchasers. He acted as adviser to the federal government on amendments to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act enacted in 1992 and 1997.

Notable Matters

  • General Motors Canada Limited – acted for lead insolvency counsel for General Motors Canada Limited in its successful out of court restructuring in coordination with US Chapter 11 restructuring of General Motors Corp.
  • Ashton Wood Homes – Advisor to equity holders in successful out of court restructuring of largest private home builder in the U.S.
  • SEM Group of Companies – represented the senior lender and facility provider in successful cross-border CCAA restructuring.
  • ABCP – engaged regarding various interests in restructuring of $32 billion asset backed commercial paper industry in Canada.
  • Air Canada – acted for General Electric Capital Corporation in connection with $650 million US DIP facility and successful CCAA restructuring of Air Canada.
  • Quebecor World– acted for purchaser of significant overseas interests.
  • Ottawa Senators – acted for senior lender in connection with successful restructuring of Ottawa Senators hockey franchise.
  • Pope & Talbot – acted for senior secured lender in connection with cross-border insolvency of a series of mills.
