Osler is proud to announce that partner Lawrence Ritchie has been appointed as a member of a 12-person advisory group of experts to the Capital Markets Modernization Taskforce (the Taskforce) that will lead the first substantial review of securities regulation in Ontario in more than 15 years — the last having been overseen by former Osler partner, the late Purdy Crawford. Larry, a former Vice-Chair of the Ontario Securities Commission, is a partner in Osler’s Litigation Group and Chair of Osler’s Risk Management and Crisis Response Group. He is also on the Board of Directors of Ontario’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority.

In an article in the Financial Post, author Barbara Schecter describes the five-member Taskforce, which was appointed by the Ontario government. The article describes the aim of the Taskforce, which is to “modernize and streamline capital markets regulation by targeting regulatory burdens that stifle innovation.” The report and feedback is to be delivered to Ontario finance minister Rod Phillips in the fall of 2020.

The role of the 12-person advisory group will be to support the Taskforce throughout the review process on matters within their various areas of capital markets expertise.

Osler would like to congratulate Larry on this new appointment.
