Osler is pleased to announce that Sam Ip of our Technology Group has been named the inaugural 2023 winner of the CAN-TECH Rising Star in Tech Law Award by the Canadian Technology Law Association.
Practicing out of the Toronto office, Sam is a partner of the Technology Group that regularly works with artificial intelligence companies or organizations making use of artificial intelligence technologies. His practice also includes technology procurement, contracting, and other commercial and corporate matters, with a significant focus on advising clients on complex issues related to the use of data, blockchain technology and, open source software.
Sam is also a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT), a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, a licensed professional engineer and was the co-creator of Osler’s free open source tool, Osler Code Detect. He regularly helps organizations comply with ambiguous provisions found in many open source licences, developing policies that are used by engineers, and negotiates various open source issues as part of licensing and M&A transactions.
The CAN-TECH Rising Star in Tech Law Award, presented annually, recognizes an outstanding member of the Canadian Technology Law Bar for their achievements, ongoing service and contributions to leadership, innovation, professional competence (including integrity and civility), and commitment to the Technology Law Bar.
