On October 31st, Osler hosted a private event on the new Champlain Bridge’s construction with guest speaker Chantal Sorel, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Capital at SNC-Lavalin, in the Montreal office. This year marks Montreal’s 375th anniversary and there are numerous infrastructure projects underway. Mrs Sorel discussed this history-making project in detail: the New Champlain Bridge’s construction. Monique Jérôme-Forget facilitated the question period.
Each year, approximately 50 million cars, buses and trucks take the Champlain Bridge, which makes it one of the busiest bridges in North America. In addition to the people living in the Greater Montreal area who use every day, this bridge is also part of a main axial road for goods transportation between Canada and the United States.
Very few people can say they witnessed the construction of a big city bridge. So this event was an excellent opportunity to learn about this fascinating project and the challenges and risks associated with the construction of this kind of infrastructure. For more information, Osler invites you to visit the New Champlain Bridge Web site or watch videos on the main pylon and on the footings of the bridge.
