Representing a Chicago-area gay man, Éric Préfontaine, Jean-François Forget and Julien Hynes-Gagné worked with lightning speed to obtain an ex parte Norwich Order from Justice Brossard of the Quebec Superior Court. The client was the victim of an “imposter profile” created without his permission on an online dating site run by a Montreal-based business. The profile published explicit photographs with the victim’s name and other identifying details.

As a result of Osler’s win, the victim was able to secure account information from the website to confirm the identity of the profile creators.

Cyber Civil Rights Legal Project (K&L Gates) will carry on with a civil suit in the United States.
