The record level of private equity activity during the first half of 2017 is in part being driven by foreign buyout firms targeting Canadian assets, according to an article in Thomson Reuters. In his article, author John Tilak examines the recent trend of deal values jumping to unprecedented levels, according to Thomson Reuters data. Shahir Guindi, Osler National Co-Chair, says the tech sector in Canada is attracting plenty of activity from both sides of the border.

“We've had a few exceptional deals. We're seeing both U.S. and Canadian interest in Canadian technology companies," Shahir tells Thomson Reuters.

Shahir advised Element AI in its C$137 million Series A financing round, representing the largest Series A financing round for an artificial intelligence company in history.
