An acknowledged leader in privacy and data management joins Osler

Mar 1, 2018

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP is pleased to announce that Patricia Kosseim, one of Canada’s leaders in the area of privacy law, has joined the firm as counsel to its Privacy and Data Management Practice Group. Together with Adam Kardash, Chair of Osler’s national Privacy and Data Management Practice, she will co-lead the next generation of Osler’s AccessPrivacy platform, an integrated suite of innovative information solutions, consulting services and thought leadership.

“Data is a business-critical asset for our clients across all sectors. Organizations face an increasing array of privacy, cybersecurity, legal and reputational risks associated with data. These risks are now top of mind for boards, senior management, in-house counsel and policy-makers across Canada and globally,” said Adam Kardash. “Pat has worked across myriad sectors, industries and jurisdictions, and will add a wealth of experience and unique expertise to our national privacy team. We are absolutely delighted to have her join us.”

For more than a decade, Patricia served as Senior General Counsel and Director General at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. She provided strategic legal and policy advice on complex and emerging privacy issues; advised Parliament on privacy implications of legislative bills; led research initiatives on new information technologies; and advanced privacy law in major litigation cases before the courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Prior to that, Patricia worked at Genome Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, after having started her career with another large national law firm. Fluently bilingual, Patricia will be based in Ottawa. She can be reached at pkosseim@osler.com. View Patricia’s bio.
