Mark Brender elected Canadian Tax Foundation Chair of the Board of Governors

Osler is proud to announce that Mark Brender has been elected the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Canadian Tax Foundation (CTF). Mark, a partner in Osler’s Tax Group, was previously the Vice-Chair of the CTF Board of Governors and the Chair of the CTF’s Executive Committee.

Mark leads Osler’s Tax Group in Montréal and his wide-ranging practice focuses on cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, Canadian and foreign multinational corporations, private equity funds, venture capital funds and privately owned businesses on transactional matters and tax dispute resolution. He also advises individuals and private family enterprises on succession and estate planning.

Mark has authored numerous papers and is a frequent speaker on tax law and policy at events organized by the CTF, International Fiscal Association, Canadian Bar Association and the Association de Planification Fiscale et Financière. His articles have been cited by the courts. In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Douglas J Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award by the CTF. Mark is also Editor-in-Chief of the Corporate Groups & Structure Journal, and a contributing editor to the Personal Tax and Estate Planning Journal. Mark also advised the Department of Justice in the context of the Canadian bijuralism project on the harmonization of the Income Tax Act with Québec civil law.

The Canadian Tax Foundation, established in 1945, is an independent tax research and education organization. The CTF provides a forum for the discussion and analysis of issues in taxation and government finance through its conferences, publications, and research projects.
