Osler is pleased to announce that our Intellectual Property Practice Group has been recognized for its “excellent” stable of IP lawyers by the 2018 IAM Patent 1000 — The World’s Leading Patent Professionals (the IAM Patent 1000). Four of our lawyers also earned special recognition across several categories for their patent expertise.

Osler earned a Silver ranking for Patent Prosecution and was ranked well in both the Transactions and Patent Litigation categories. According to the IAM Patent 1000, Osler’s IP Group makes “light work of even the most unwieldy mandates. Their practical, straight-shooting transactional and enforcement advice always hits the bullseye.” Most importantly, the publication asserts, “they know how to win.” This team includes “star litigators” Brad White, Vincent de Grandpré and Nathaniel Lipkus, who are “responsive, timely on deliverables and cost-conscious,” and Lee Webster, who is “sure-footed in technology-rich transactions.”

Brad, Chair of Osler’s IP Group, earned a Silver ranking in the Litigation category and was also recognized for Prosecution. The IAM Patent 1000 lauded Brad for being a “phenomenal” strategist and litigator. “He quickly earns the respect of everyone he works with, guiding things with a calm and steady — but firm — hand.” The publication also praised him his “razor-sharp” analysis and his “uncanny knack for seeing the big picture even in the midst of complicated multi-jurisdictional proceedings.” Brad practises intellectual property law with an emphasis on complex patent litigation and patent prosecution.

Vincent earned a Silver ranking in Litigation and was praised by the publication for his “scientific knowledge and attention to detail … His trial advocacy is particularly impressive in cases involving complex technical issues — they cause him no problem at all.” Vincent’s litigation practice focuses on intellectual property matters, including complex pharmaceutical patent litigation.

Nathaniel was recognized in the Litigation category and was described as “super hard-working,” and a “really bright, civil and gentlemanly litigator who knows his stuff.” Nathaniel’s practice focuses on contentious legal issues confronting innovation-intensive industries, with an emphasis on patent and regulatory issues facing pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Lee was Highly Recommended in the Transactions category. The IAM Patent 1000 lauds him for his “devoted client care,” which is “a hallmark of his service; he becomes a part of clients’ businesses in a way that allows him to give sound strategic advice ad lib.” Lee’s practice encompasses a full range of intellectual property services including counseling, acquisition, clearance and infringement opinions, enforcement, commercial and litigation support and intellectual property portfolio strategies.

Osler’s Intellectual Property Group is renowned for its diverse strengths, including excellence in IP litigation; expertise and innovation in patent and trade-mark prosecution; portfolio advising and management; and unmatched experience in helping realize the value of IP portfolios in mergers, reorganizations and other business transactions.
