March 1, 2018

Osler is pleased to announce that partner Riyaz Dattu has been appointed to the NAFTA Chapter 19 Trade Remedies Roster (the Roster) for a 10-year term, effective February 6, 2018. The announcement was made February 21 in the Canada Gazette.

NAFTA Chapter 19 “provides for the establishment of a roster of qualified individuals to determine disputes arising under that Chapter,” according to the announcement. The selection of Chapter 19 trade panel dispute members for particular disputes is done through the Roster. Members are selected to the Roster through an “open, transparent and merit-based selection process.”

Riyaz, a partner in Osler’s International Trade and Investment Law Group, has written extensively on international trade issues. He advises multinational and domestic businesses on international trade policy and investment matters, international trade strategies and market-access concerns. A significant part of Riyaz’s practice focuses on assisting clients operating overseas that have to contend with political risks, anti-corruption and corporate social responsibility obligations.
