Osler recognizes Mental Health Awareness Week

May 10, 2019

Osler held its second Mental Health Awareness Week on May 6-10, which coincided with the annual campaign organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). As part of the week, the firm offered various events designed to support the health and wellness of Osler staff and lawyers, including mental health awareness and education sessions delivered by Morneau Shepell.

The Morneau Shepell sessions covered a wide range of topics related to mental health and awareness, including how to address the prevailing stigma surrounding mental health issues, how to recognize when coworkers may need help, and how to support others in need. The presentation also pointed participants to mental health resources and tools, such as CMHA’s Mental Health Works website and videos produced as part of the World Health Organization’s "Depression: let’s talk" campaign, including the animated “I had a black dog” video that has garnered more than 9 million views.

During the week-long event, employees also received mental health tips and resource information and took part in workshops, including a yoga stretch break seminar and meditation and mindfulness sessions.
