Osler is proud to have been shortlisted for a Financial Times North America Innovative Lawyers Award for Estoppel Express, an estoppel certificate production service developed through the Osler Works platform. The FT Innovative Lawyers Awards, held December 9 at Gotham Hall in New York City, are based on extensive research in partnership with RSG Consulting, which involved interviews and client feedback. The awards recognize extraordinary lawyers who are working to change the practice of law and add transformative value to business and society.

Designed by Osler, Estoppel Express applies a forward-thinking process to streamline estoppel certificate production. By leveraging the Kira platform and technology from Microsoft, DocuSign and Closing Folders, this innovative solution makes multi-tenant real estate transactions significantly easier to complete, saving clients time, money and hassle, while enabling them to complete their transactions more efficiently.

Estoppel Express was developed by the team from Osler Works – Transactional, the firm’s alternative delivery centre that forms part of the Osler Works innovation platform. Osler Works – Transactional professionals specialize in improving client experiences using technology and streamlined processes. Collaboration between the practice team and Osler Works – Transactional resulted in the development, refinement, testing and rolling out of the final product to clients. Yan Besner, a partner in Osler’s Real Estate Group, who was responsible for spearheading this initiative states, “This tool is the first of its kind and not only saves time and money for our clients, but also sets a precedent for innovation and technology in the legal field.”
