Osler is a winner at Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards 2020

May 29, 2020

Osler’s National Litigation Department is proud to have been recognized by the Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards 2020 for its role in one of Benchmark Canada’s “Impact Cases of the Year” – the firm’s successful representation of Chevron Corporation in Chevron Corp. et al. ats Yaiguaje et al. (Chevron). The firm is also pleased to congratulate partner Stéphane Eljarrat on being named “White Collar Crime Litigator of the Year.” The awards were announced through a virtual presentation and in a press release on May 28, 2020.

Benchmark’s “Impact Cases of the Year” are matters recognized as having the greatest impact on the Canadian litigation community, according to Benchmark Canada’s research, and only seven cases were chosen from across Canada. Benchmark Litigation referred to Chevron as a “landmark case concerning an attempt on the part of plaintiffs to enforce a $9.5 billion judgment against Chevron in the U.S. by piercing the corporate veil in Canada.”

Stéphane has been recognized by Benchmark Canada since 2014, and was lauded for his “handling of a diverse basket of securities-related criminal investigations and litigations in Québec.” As one client tells Benchmark Canada, “Stéphane knows our business reality perfectly and is interested in it … He always provides sound advice on difficult matters.”

Earlier this year, Osler was proud to announce that 29 of our litigation lawyers appeared in Benchmark Litigation’s 2020 issue of Benchmark Canada, their annual publication recognizing Canada’s leading litigation lawyers.

Benchmark Litigation provides law firm and lawyer rankings based on extensive interviews with litigators, dispute resolution specialists and their clients as well as analysis of the market’s most important cases and firm developments.
