Osler receives 10 Excellence Awards from the Canadian Law Awards 2021

Osler is pleased to announce that the firm has been recognized by the 2021 Canadian Law Awards presented by Lexpert.

The firm received 10 Excellence Awards for our work on the following “Deals of the Year” that have now been shortlisted for Gold Awards to be announced on May 20^th:  

• Creation and offering of a new form Tier 1 regulatory capital (Capital Markets Deal of the Year)
  • Osler advised Royal Bank of Canada in its inaugural Additional Tier 1 offering of Limited Recourse Capital Notes at $1.75 billion. This offering represents the first issuance of a new form of AT1 capital instrument using a novel structure pioneered by RBC and the Osler team.
• Cascade Power Project (Infrastructure Deal of the Year)
  • Osler acted for Kineticor Resource Corp. in the development and financing of the $1.5 billion Cascade Power Project.
• TC Pipeline (Infrastructure Deal of the Year)
  • Osler acted for KKR and AIMCo in their joint acquisition of a combined 65% equity interest from TC Energy in the $6.8B Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project.
• CBCA restructuring of Just Energy Group Inc. (Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year)
  • Osler advised Just Energy Group Inc. in connection with its $1.1 billion recapitalization transaction.
• CCAA restructuring of Cirque du Soleil (Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year)
  • Osler advised TPG in its submission of a stalking horse bid for Cirque du Soleil’s assets in partnership with Fosun, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and Investissement Québec.
• CCAA restructuring of Nemaska Lithium (Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year)
  • Osler acted for a potential bidder in Nemaska Lithium’s CCAA restructuring.
• VetStrategy in its US$1 billion acquisition bv Berkshire Partners (M&A Deal of the Year)
  • Osler advised the lenders in Berkshire Partners’ acquisition of VetStrategy.
• KingSett Capital and Starlight Investments’ $4.9 billion acquisition of Northview Apartment REIT (M&A Deal of the Year)
  • Osler acted for KingSett Capital on behalf of KingSett Real Estate Growth LP No.7, KingSett Canadian Real Estate Income Fund, and other investors, in connection with its $4.9 billion acquisition, with Starlight Investments, of Northview Apartment REIT.
• Power Financial in its reorganization transaction with Power Corporation (M&A Deal of the Year)
  • Osler advised Power Financial in its reorganization transaction with Power Corporation.
• Richardson GMP in its acquisition by GMP Capital (Mid-Market Deal of the Year)
  • Osler acted for Richardson Financial Group in the sale of Richardson GMP to GMP Capital Inc.

The Canadian Law Awards will take place virtually on May 20^th, 2021 when the Gold Awards will be announced.
