Osler is proud to announce that two of our Insolvency and Restructuring partners, Sandra Abitan and Tracy Sandler, have been recognized as Women Leaders by IFLR1000.

IFLR1000 Women Leaders are the most prominent female lawyers working in the areas of law researched by IFLR (International Financial Law Review) within their jurisdictions. This is an elite group of lawyers with outstanding reputations within their markets who either have expertise and experience  working on complex deals, or who have risen to hold leadership roles with their firms or their practices. IFLR1000's research teams across the globe analyze thousands of research submissions, conduct thousands of interviews with law firm partners, and survey tens of thousands of clients to determine IFLR1000's Women Leaders.

Tracy Sandler has over 30 years’ experience advising on many of the largest and most widely known insolvency and restructuring mandates, including landmark matters for Target, General Motors and Canwest. She practises corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on corporate recapitalizations, reorganizations, and restructurings and related transactions including acquisitions and divestitures. Tracy is sought out for her expertise on cross-border proceedings and for her ability to provide pragmatic advice that is tailored to her clients' business issues. Tracy currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Kids Help Phone and the Israel Cancer Research Fund. Tracy served as the National Chair of Osler’s Insolvency and Restructuring Group and as a member of the firm’s Operations Committee. She has also served two terms on the firm’s Partnership Board.

Sandra Abitan is the Managing Partner of Osler’s Montréal office. She has played a significant role in the development of our Montréal office over the years and has held various leadership roles within the firm. Sandra is a recognized leader in the Insolvency and Restructuring practice in Quebec and nationally. Her clientele is diverse and reflective of the Canadian and international business community – global companies, financial institutions, equity participants, and court officers who have sought her advice in working through reorganizations, recapitalizations, restructurings and strategic acquisitions. Sandra is a past-president of the Board of the Turnaround Management Association – Montréal Chapter and an active member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada in addition to other renowned organizations in her areas of expertise. She is lauded for her creative and practical approach to problem solving and finding solutions to complex business and legal problems.
