Osler is proud to announce that two of our Insolvency and Restructuring partners, Sandra Abitan and Tracy Sandler, have been recognized as Women Leaders by IFLR1000, for the second consecutive year.

IFLR1000 Women Leaders is an elite ranking category reserved for the most prominent women lawyers across the world working in the areas of law IFLR1000 researches. This is an exclusive group of lawyers with outstanding reputations within their markets who either have expertise and experience working on complex deals, or who have risen to hold leadership roles within their firms or their practices.

Sandra Abitan is the Managing Partner of the Montréal office. She has played a significant role in the development of the office over the years and has held various leadership roles within the firm. Sandra is a recognized leader in the insolvency and restructuring practice in Québec and nationally. Her clientele is diverse and reflective of the Canadian and international business community – global companies, financial institutions, equity participants, and court officers who have sought her advice in working through reorganizations, recapitalizations, restructurings and strategic acquisitions. Sandra is a Past President of the Board of the Turnaround Management Association – Montréal Chapter, a member of board of directors of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, and an active member of other renowned organizations in her areas of expertise. She is lauded for her creative and practical approach to problem solving and finding solutions to complex business and legal problems.

Tracy Sandler has over 30 years’ experience advising on many of the largest and most widely known insolvency and restructuring mandates, including landmark matters for Target, General Motors and Canwest. She practises corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on corporate recapitalizations, reorganizations, and restructurings and related transactions including acquisitions and divestitures. She acts as a trusted advisor to major debtor corporations, boards, lending syndicates, bondholders and private equity sponsors, and also regularly advises court officers. Tracy is sought out for her expertise on cross-border proceedings and for her ability to provide pragmatic advice that is tailored to her clients' business issues. Tracy currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Kids Help Phone and the Israel Cancer Research Fund. Tracy served as the National Chair of Osler’s Insolvency & Restructuring Group and as a member of the firm’s Operations Committee, and served two terms on the firm’s Partnership Board.
