According to Refinitiv, 2022 saw US$190 billion of completed deal activity with Canadian involvement. Osler advised on US$36 billion in total transaction value represented by 171 deals.
These rankings are particularly noteworthy as Canadian announced M&A market activity saw 23% fewer deals in 2022 compared to the previous year, according to the report. Other markets around the globe experienced similar slowdowns after particularly active years in 2021 and 2020. Worldwide M&A activity fell 37% to US$3.6 trillion, the largest year-over-year drop since 2001.
