Osler is pleased to announce the addition of 10 new partners and two new counsel across our offices in Toronto, Montréal, Calgary and Vancouver, effective March 1, 2023.

New Partners

Toronto

The Toronto office welcomed eight new partners: Lia Bruschetta (Litigation), Shawn Cymbalisty (Corporate), Josh Disenhouse (Real Estate), Sam Ip (Commercial – Tech), Elizabeth Mpermperacis (Banking and Financial Services), Aislinn E. Reid (Litigation), Matthew Ritchie (Real Estate), and Marta Rochkin (Banking and Financial Services).

Lia practices complex construction and commercial litigation, primarily involving disputes arising out of construction and infrastructure projects. She also has considerable experience with complex commercial litigation, including having litigated a number of high-profile commercial disputes in the infrastructure industry.

Shawn's work is in the area of corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on investment funds, asset management, securities lending and derivatives regulation. He has acted for both issuers and underwriters on a variety of corporate finance matters, and has assisted in the formation and financing of many emerging companies.

Josh's practice encompasses all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including the acquisition, disposition, financing and leasing of real property. He has previously held the position of Legal Counsel for one of the preeminent real estate development and property management companies in the country.

Sam's focus is on technology procurement, contracting, and other commercial and corporate matters. He advises clients on complex issues related to the use of data, AI, blockchain technology and, open source software.

Elizabeth practices commercial law and focuses on domestic and cross-border commercial lending. She advises financial institutions, borrowers and issuers on commercial agreements, secured credit, project financings, acquisition financings, reorganizations, debt offerings, securitizations and structured finance transactions. 

Aislinn's litigation practice focuses on health advocacy on behalf of hospitals and other health industry clients. She represents healthcare clients in a wide range of proceedings, including civil actions, administrative proceedings, human rights matters, regulatory proceedings, and coroner’s inquests.

Matt has extensive experience advising on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including the acquisition, disposition, financing and leasing (landlord and tenant) of industrial, office, retail, hospitality, long-term care, development and mixed-use properties. He also advises on insolvency and restructuring transactions.

Marta regularly represents domestic and foreign lenders, equity sponsors and corporations in connection with complex debt financing transactions. Her focus is on secured and unsecured financing, project finance, public private partnerships, acquisition financing, syndicated loans, cross-border transactions, and debt offerings.

Montréal

Our Montréal office introduced one new partner: David Wilson (Tax).
David's practice is broad based and encompasses all aspects of domestic and international tax planning, dispute resolution and litigation. His experience includes advising clients on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and corporate finance transactions.

Calgary

The Calgary office welcomed one new partner: Sean Sutherland (Litigation). Sean's national litigation practice focuses on business-critical disputes. He acts for corporate clients in complex oil and gas litigation, environmental matters, regulatory investigations, class action defence, and product liability actions.

New counsel

Osler is also pleased to announce the admission of Toronto-based associate Sandra Malcolm (Corporate) and Vancouver-based associate Theo Stathakos (Tax) to the role of counsel, effective March 1, 2023.

Sandra's practice focuses on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters, with extensive experience in equity and debt financings. She regularly represents both issuers and underwriters in domestic and cross-border offerings, including initial public offerings, prospectus offerings, and private placements.

Theo is a litigator with a primary focus on tax disputes. He also represents clients in litigious or potentially litigious corporate and commercial disputes, particularly in the oil and gas and mining industries, and in restructuring and insolvency matters.
