On October 16, 2024, General Motors Corporation announced its joint venture with Lithium Americas Corp. for the purposes of developing the Thacker Pass project whereby GM is investing US$625 million for a 38% asset level ownership interest in Thacker Pass. As part of the transaction, GM has also agreed to extend its existing offtake agreement for up to 100% of production volumes from Phase 1 of Thacker Pass. Thacker Pass is the largest known sedimentary lithium resource in the U.S. and is one of the largest lithium deposits in the world.

General Motors is the largest automaker in the United States and the company designs, builds and sells automobile parts and accessories globally.

Lithium Americas is a TSX and NYSE dual-listed company focused on the development of advanced stage lithium projects in the United States and Argentina.
