On July 1, 2021, the University Pension Plan announced its launch and conversion to a jointly sponsored pension plan (JSPP). The conversion to a JSPP took place by way of a merger, combining the pension assets of three Ontario Universities including Queen’s University, University of Guelph and the University of Toronto. The fund covers 35,000 pension plan members and retirees in the university sector and provides a long-term solution to retirement security.

University Pension Plan is a jointly sponsored pension plan and the first of its kind in Ontario’s university sector with $10.5 billion in assets under management.

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP advised The Board of Trustees of the University Pension Plan Ontario with a team consisting of John Black, Shawn Cymbalisty (Corporate), Paul Litner and Olivia Suppa (Pensions & Benefits).
