Osler Diversity Scholarship Program

Two $2,500 Diversity Scholarships

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP is committed to diversity and inclusion in our policies and in practice. We respect that each individual is unique, and we recognize, welcome and celebrate these individual differences. We aim to ensure that all of us can “bring our full selves” to work and achieve our full potential. We strive to provide an inclusive, supportive and collaborative professional environment that nurtures a collective force of unique talents.

By embracing difference, not only do we offer a better work environment for our people, but we deliver better solutions to our clients. The solutions that emerge from diverse teams and perspectives have proven to be the most creative and innovative.

Osler recognizes that diversity must be actively supported through an array of internal and external initiatives. That’s why we established our Diversity Scholarship Program in 2018. This program will provide up to two $2,500 scholarships each year to law students who, like us, seek to promote diversity and inclusion. We created this scholarship program to ensure that law students are recognized and celebrated for their efforts to promote diversity and inclusion within their law school, their community or the legal profession.

Eligibility requirements

Any first- or second-year law student*  who meets the requirements outlined below is encouraged to apply for consideration. Applicants must:

  • Be a full-time first-year or second-year law student studying at a Canadian law school; and
  • Not be an immediate family member of either an Osler or Carthos Services employee.

Applicants do not have to be members of an equity-deserving group. All students seeking to promote diversity and inclusion are encouraged to apply.

*This includes anyone in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of the joint JD/MBA 4-year degree.

Selection criteria

Osler seeks to recognize two students who exemplify:

  • Strong leadership skills; and
  • A demonstrated commitment to being a diversity leader within either their law school, the legal profession or the broader community.

We are interested in compelling stories about your diversity leadership experience in either legal or non-legal contexts. Please don’t feel that you need to focus on initiatives undertaken at your law school if you have an even more compelling story to share about diversity and inclusion work you did in the neighborhood where you grew up, in a previous workplace, for a charity where you volunteer, etc.
