In early 2019, Canada will fundamentally change its trademark regime, removing use as a registration requirement, and acceding to the Madrid Protocol, the Nice Agreement, and the Singapore Treaty. Participating in these treaties will help modernize Canada’s intellectual property systems. Not only do the changes have obvious implications for filing in Canada in 2019 and thereafter, but they impact filing strategies now. Attend an INTA September roundtable near you to learn more about these significant changes in Canadian trademark law and how best to navigate them for your clients.
