Overview

Canadian pension plan administrators are facing immediate and unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To assist the retirement income community in navigating these challenges, ACPM has brought together a panel of top pension legal experts to discuss fiduciary decision-making and the related practical problems for pension fiduciaries arising in the current environment. Moderated by the Chair of ACPM, our panel will address the following topics:

  • Plan administrators’ fiduciary duties and management of conflicts of interest post-Indalex (the pivotal 2013 Supreme Court of Canada decision)
  • Overview of recent pension legislative and regulatory measures implemented across Canada to address COVID-19
  • Practical problem areas for pension fiduciaries in the governing, investment and funding of their pension plans and related employee communication challenges
