The Art and Science of Loyalty: How Building Better Relationships Can Transform Your Organization
(James Kane, Loyalty Expert, Researcher and Author)
In this fascinating and highly entertaining presentation, James Kane takes his audience on a journey into the human brain and explains the secret to building and maintaining real, loyal relationships. Supported by more than 40 years of Harvard University research, Kane makes the case that human beings have a fundamental need to be loyal and actively seek out the specific clues from others that tell them when they can and should be. For the changing world of the legal profession, building strong relationships have become even more critical. When an organization, as well as an individual, is able to understand and demonstrate those loyalty-building behaviours, they can develop relationships that will last a lifetime.

(Eric Laughlin, Managing Director, Corporate Segment Thomson Reuters, and Benjamin Alarie, Co-Founder and CEO Blue J Legal)
We are hearing a lot about Artificial Intelligence (AI) in law these days — from smart contracts to robot lawyers. Do you need a computer science degree to understand it? What do we need to know? What does AI really mean and how is it being applied in law? What are some of the tools and systems being created that use AI? What are the opportunities and where is the threat? These experts, who are immersed in this topic, help us understand these questions and demonstrate the practical application of a current legal product that incorporates AI.

Risk Management and Crisis Response
(Lawrence Ritchie, Partner, Osler and Lisa Pearson, Principal, Navigator Ltd.)
Increasingly, corporations face an assortment of challenges that expose them, as well as their officers and directors to litigation, regulatory, reputational and other risks. It often falls to the general counsel to properly identify, manage and mitigate such risks before they cascade into a crisis. Through some video scenarios — and specifically through the eyes and perspectives of general and inside counsel — participants will explore how best to respond and how not to react to crisis situations, while learning about the management of ever-evolving legal risks within and throughout their organizations. These legal and ethical duties are a constant challenge, but in-house counsel need not feel alone. This session will analyze in-house counsel's biggest regulatory concerns as gleaned from recent industry research, and how comprehensive compliance programs can be built to address these concerns proactively.
