Medico-Legal Society of Toronto presents Young Practitioners Anatomy Series – Part II, Hospital Privileges: Perspectives from MDs and Counsel.
Pursuant to the Public Hospitals Act, physicians can apply annually for appointment (or reappointment) to exercise privileges at a hospital. When a physician is denied hospital privileges, the physician’s rights to due process under the PHA and hospital by-laws are triggered. We will discuss how hospital privileges work, common issues for both hospitals and physicians, and what the process might look like when issues do arise.
