Addressing the issues highlighted in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's findings is of critical importance to Canada. The legal system has been at the heart of these issues – from being used to implement failed and harmful policies, to landmark court decisions affirming indigenous rights and, going forward, to implement principles such as free, prior and informed consent in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

This seminar supports Indigenous intercultural competency learning, and provide an overview of the history of Indigenous-Crown relations, the current state of Indigenous law in Canada, and where the law might be headed.
