Tax Court of Canada closure

Mar 24

All Tax Court of Canada courtrooms and registry offices are currently closed for business until further notice.

The Tax Court of Canada has cancelled all judicial sittings and conference calls for dates up to and including May 1, 2020, while those scheduled for May 2, 2020 and later are still scheduled to proceed, subject to further directions from the Court on April 14, 2020.

In computing time for the purpose of: (a) procedural steps set out in the applicable rules of the Court and (b) orders and directions of the Court made prior to March 16, 2020, the period of time beginning on March 16, 2020 and ending on May 1, 2020 is excluded.

Deadlines to file notices of appeal and other statutory deadlines that are not prescribed by the Court’s rules remain unaltered. The Tax Court of Canada encourages parties to file documents subject to such deadlines online or by facsimile, and they will be processed when the Court resumes operations.

Please see the Practice Direction and Order here (current as of March 23, 2020), and the Notice to the Public and Profession (current as of March 23, 2020) for more detailed information.

For information regarding extended deadlines and measures being adopted in the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, or the Supreme Court of Canada, please refer to each court’s website.
