Osler’s Vancouver office opened in August 2015 with four legal professionals and a focus on emerging and high growth companies. Today, our Vancouver team includes more than 40 legal professionals who advise on every aspect of business law at the local, national and international levels. We are a full-service office with practice areas that include corporate commercial law, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, banking and financial services, securities, mining, commercial real estate, tax and litigation. Our growth strategy focuses on both strategic lateral hires and a strong student program.
Located in the heart of beautiful downtown Vancouver, our office offers the resources of a national firm with the collegiality of a smaller office. Summer and articling students
Our student talent pipeline is an important part of our growth strategy and we are committed to growing our Vancouver team through our summer and articling programs. Our students work with some of Canada’s most respected lawyers across a variety of practice areas. Students are involved in all stages of our client work and have the opportunity to make a real contribution to our team. Summer and articling programs are designed to challenge students in an encouraging atmosphere where they can thrive. We strive to provide an open, supportive and professional learning environment where exceptional students can grow into exceptional lawyers.
With a focus on practical training, professional development and student feedback, our summer program is designed so students can pursue their areas of special interest, while gaining broad experience across our key practice areas: Emerging & High Growth Companies, Corporate, Securities, Tax, Commercial Real Estate and Commercial Litigation. Summer students gain practical insight into current and emerging business law issues. Partnered with a senior lawyer who acts as a personal mentor, students are also exposed to the ins and outs of a lawyer’s daily practice.
Articling students have the opportunity to explore those same key practice areas. Our articling student program provides students with the flexibility of pursuing an area of particular interest in more depth. Each student is assigned to a lawyer who acts as a personal mentor throughout the articling year and monitors workflow to ensure a varied and manageable workload. Students also participate in a comprehensive professional development program to build critical practice management skills.
Our summer and articling students also have the opportunity to attend (and sometimes organize) fun firm events and extracurricular activities. In the past, these have included Night Out at the Ballgame, Osler Aces Volleyball Team, Food Truck Fridays and Virtual Beer Tastings.
