Julien has a wide-ranging commercial litigation and regulatory practice, which includes civil liability and contractual disputes, environmental law, regulatory work, class actions, franchise law, manufacturer liability, human rights and insolvency. Julien has pleaded before all judicial levels, including various administrative tribunals, the Court of Québec, the Québec Superior Court, the Court of Appeal of Québec and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Prior to joining the firm, Julien completed the joint civil and common law program at McGill University, and studied natural resources management as an exchange student at the University of Oslo, in Norway.

    • A utilities company in its distribution activities before the Québec Régie de l’énergie.
    • A public body in the context of the purchase of certain electricity supplies in Québec.
    • Colacem Canada Inc. towards obtaining certain regulatory approvals to build and operate a cement plant in Eastern Ontario.
    • National Tire Distributors, in its road security rating re-evaluation before the Commission des transports du Québec.
    • GFL Environmental Inc., by reviewing environmental and regulatory matters in the context of a $5.125 billion recapitalization.
    • Ventas, Inc.in its acquisition of a high quality Canadian seniors housing portfolio valued at $2.4 billion in partnership with Le Groupe Maurice

    • Facebook, Inc. in the defence of a class action pertaining to alleged discriminatory practices.
    • Enterprise Canada, National and Alamo Rental in the defence of a class action pertaining to alleged discriminatory practices.
    • Colacem Canada Inc. in the defence of an environmental class action relating to alleged neighbourhood disturbances.

     

    COMMERCIAL LITIGATION

    • FNF Canada and Chicago Title Insurance Company against the Chambre des notaires du Québec in the defense of their refinancing program.
    • Bouclair Inc. in the defence of a claim of over $500,000 of alleged accrued rent.
    • A manufacturer in the context of a shareholder dispute alleging oppression.
    • CAE Inc. in the defense of an intellectual property claim.
    • Wykanta Canada Ltd. in its claim for lost profits following a refusal to complete an acquisition.
    • Trouw Nutrition Canada Inc., a leader in animal nutrition, in recourses based on manufacturer’s liability and professional liability.
    • A food franchisor in multiple real estate and contractual remedies and in insolvency proceedings.
    • A mobile application developer, in a recourse based on poor programming and poor project management of a service provider.
    • Alithya Group Inc., in its going public transaction by way of a business combination with Edgewater Technology, Inc. and completion of a $52.8 million concurrent private placement.
    • KSV Kofman Inc., in its capacity as receiver under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act in the sale of a lithium mine located in Abitibi to an indirect subsidiary of Jilin Jien Nickel Industry Co., Ltd.
    • A holding company in the context of a large scale hypothecary claim.

    • Ricochet Média a non-profit web journal in its defence of a $350,000 defamation claim.
    • Certain victims by obtaining IP information of certain online perpetrators, through the use of Norwich Orders.
