Laura’s practice is focused on environmental, regulatory, indigenous and land issues and litigation. Laura has experience with matters before the Alberta Utilities Commission, the British Columbia Utilities Commission, the Alberta Energy Regulator, the Canada Energy Regulator (formerly the National Energy Board), the Alberta Securities Commission, the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

While completing her masters of law in natural resources, energy and environmental law, Laura worked as a research associate for the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law and as a consultant to various industry groups within the energy sector. After graduating, Laura completed a fellowship at the Canadian Institute of Resources Law and articled at a law firm in Calgary specializing in energy regulatory law. Laura subsequently worked for a civil litigation firm in Calgary before joining Osler.

    *Acted for a publicly traded oil sands producer regarding securities trades regulated by the Alberta Securities Commission and regarding an application to enforce an international arbitration award before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench

    *Acted for a group of gas utility companies regarding a major gas pipeline’s rate design application before the Canada Energy Regulator

    *Acted for the owner of a British Columbia jet fuel pipeline regarding its application to the British Columbia Utilities Commission for approval of final tolls and proposed abandonment cost estimate, collection surcharge, and abandonment cost set-aside mechanism

    *Acted for a developer-owned water utility regarding an application to true-up interim and final water rates before the Alberta Utilities Commission and regarding a Supreme Court of Canada leave to appeal application
