Ryan is an associate in the Intellectual Property Group. He practices in all areas of intellectual property, with a focus on litigation. Ryan has been involved in matters before the Trademark Opposition Board, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Ryan obtained his J.D. from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, graduating on the Dean’s List. Prior to law school, he obtained his B.Sc. (Honours) from Queen’s University, where he Specialized in Life Sciences and graduated with Distinction.

While at Dalhousie, Ryan was a VP of both the Business Law Association of Dalhousie and the Dalhousie Asian Law Students Association. He also served as an Appointed Student Member of the law school’s Academic Committee, a Peer Educator for the Indigenous, Black and Mi’kmaq Initiative, and a Peer Academic Mentor for the Academic Success Program.

Ryan also received course prizes for highest standing in Administrative Law; Alternative Dispute Resolution; Civil Trial Practice and Insurance Law (combined); Tort Law; and the Health Law & Policy Paper Prize for his paper in Advance Negligence, where he wrote about government tort liability. He also represented Dalhousie at the 2019-2020 Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot Competition and spent part of his final year clerking at the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.

Ryan joined Osler in 2019, spending two summers as a summer student, and completed his articles with the firm from 2021-2022. Prior to returning as an associate, Ryan served as Law Clerk to the Honourable Justice Richard F. Southcott at the Federal Court.
