Lee is a partner in the National Intellectual Property Department. Mr. Webster’s practice has a strong focus on the structuring of comprehensive technology and IP licensing, joint venture, R&D and other related commercial arrangements having a strong focus on the exchange of technology and IP.  His practice also encompasses the full range of IP services, including corporate transaction and litigation support, trademark acquisition, licensing and infringement, and counselling on IP portfolios. Recent notable matters include acting on behalf of and structuring technology licensing and sharing arrangements for significant projects in the nuclear energy, financial services, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, biotech and electronics fields. Mr. Webster is a founding member of the Canadian Intellectual Property Council. He is a registered trademark and patent agent and has written and spoken extensively on intellectual property and related issues.

    • Acting on behalf of a major Canadian nuclear energy provider in providing IP related advice on services and other licensing arrangements on nuclear component acquisition agreements
    • Acting on behalf of a Montreal based pharmaceutical company in advising on clinical trial, non-disclosure and material transfer agreements for a new class of breakthrough drugs to treat brain diseases and related disorders
    • Acting on behalf of a Montreal and Denver based company in advising on technology licensing, research and development, non-disclosure and material transfer agreements relating to biological optimizers for soil seed and plants
    • Acting on behalf of a major oil and gas production company in providing advice on a technology joint venture sharing arrangement involving the sale of an oil refinery
    • Acting on behalf of several pharmaceutical manufactures in preparing and providing advice on pharma manufacturing and technology license agreements
    • Acting on behalf of a consortium of research institutes in structuring technology licensing and sharing arrangements, including research and development and manufacturing agreements, for a novel virus useful in the treatment of human cancer
    • Acting on behalf of a Montreal based pharmaceutical company involved in clinical stage drug development for novel small molecule therapeutics for cardiovascular diseases
    • Acted on behalf of several start-up companies in providing advice relating to the structuring of IP licensing arrangements with educational institutions and governmental authorities
    • Acting on behalf of a Vancouver based company that is marketing a novel 3d printer device for the creation of human tissues
    • Acting on behalf of an Ottawa based adult entertainment product manufacturer in advising on IP related distribution and licensing agreements
    • Acting on behalf of an industrial water treatment equipment manufacturer in providing advice on technology joint venture and licensing arrangements.
    • Acting on behalf of the owner and operator of Toronto Pearson Airport in providing advice on art agreements and general intellectual property matters
    • Acting on behalf of a Calgary based technology development corporation in structuring development and licensing arrangements for a sulfur based process for removing impurities from bitumen
    • Acting on behalf of European and U.S. based brand owners on trade mark prosecution, enforcement and licensing matters
    • Acted on behalf of a significant Canadian based auto parts company in providing IP advice relating to the sale of a division of that company
    • Acted on behalf of a consortium of major oil production companies in structuring and implementing a technology sharing arrangement for technology that fosters environmental benefits in oil sands development applications
    • Acted on behalf of a Chinese petrochemical company in structuring technology licensing and sharing arrangements for a joint venture constructing a natural gas liquification facility in British Columbia
    • Acted on behalf of a major Canadian energy (hydro-electric) provider in structuring the technology licensing and sharing arrangements for the development, construction and operation of a compressed natural gas transportation infrastructure
    • Acted on behalf of a major Canadian uranium technology provider in structuring the technology licensing arrangements for the construction of a uranium refinery in central Asia
    • Acted on behalf of a New York based investment bank in advising them on the acquisition of a prominent Canadian patent aggregator in, among other things, mobile phone technology
    • Acted on behalf of a prominent accounting firm in structuring technology transfer and licensing arrangement for computer hardware and firmware for use in electoral applications
    • Acted on behalf of a major Canadian gold manufacturer in negotiating a joint venture and licensing arrangement with a Chilean mineral processing research and development company
