The Pro Bono Cause
Privacy International is a UK-based charity that focuses on protecting privacy rights worldwide. The charity litigates to ensure surveillance is consistent with the rule of law, and advocates for strong national, regional and international laws that protect privacy. Privacy International raises awareness about technologies and laws that place privacy at risk, to ensure that the public is informed and engaged, and it works with international organisations to protect the most vulnerable.
One of the organization’s projects seeks to ensure that non-nationals who are subject to extraterritorial surveillance by one of the countries in the global surveillance infrastructure collectively known as the Five Eyes, (the UK, US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand) are able to obtain a remedy.
