Osler congratulates Lisa Mantello, partner, Financial Services, for being recognized as one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers by Canadian Lawyer in their 2023 survey of readers, peers and chosen by the editorial board.

Lisa Mantello is a highly experienced transactional lawyer. She is consistently recognized as a leading lawyer by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in the area of derivatives, Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of banking and finance and as “Highly Regarded” by IFLR 1000 in the areas of banking and finance, derivatives and financial restructuring.

In the past 18 months, Lisa has made an indelible impact on interest rate benchmark reform in Canada – an area that affects the Canadian financial market and financial market participants around the world. In May 2022, Refinitiv Benchmark Services (UK) Limited announced it would stop publishing the Canadian benchmark rate, the Canadian Dollar Offered Rate (CDOR) and since then Canada has embarked on a fundamental reengineering of its financial system as it transitions financial benchmarks from CDOR to the new Term Canadian Overnight Rep Rate Average (CORRA).

Working on a pro bono basis, Lisa was appointed by the Bank of Canada as the Chair of the Legal and Compliance Committee and the Co-Chair of the Accounting, Tax and Regulatory Committee as part of the Canadian Alternative Reference Rate (CARR) working group through which the Bank of Canada worked with industry to plan and execute this complex transition. Lisa’s contributions and leadership on these committees has been integral to a smooth transition throughout this period.

As part of Canadian Lawyer’s survey, Lisa’s peers called her “an ultimate expert in financial services with exceptional technical knowledge in lending and structured finance, she is a trusted leader to nearly all of the players in the industry.”

Each year Canadian Lawyer’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers list recognizes an individual’s efforts to help shape the law, contribute to the strength and quality of legal service among other categories. Lawyers who are selected often contribute to the most nationally significant and strategic legal questions, cases, deals and disputes. Winners are selected across five different categories from hundreds of nominees.
