Brian Levitt is Co-Chair of the firm and practices in our Montréal office. One of the leading corporate governance and M&A advisors in Canada, Brian counsels Canadian corporations on compliance with the corporate governance and other requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and advises on the effects of the Act and other U.S. securities issues in Canada. He advises Canadian, U.S. and foreign corporations on Canadian securities laws and cross-jurisdictional requirements and implications.
The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2008 lists Brian as a most frequently recommended practitioner in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and corporate-commercial law and consistently recommended in the corporate finance and securities sector. Brian is also recognized in the 2008 Lexpert-American Lawyer Media Guide to the Top 500 Lawyers in Canada and in the 2008 Chambers Global Guide. In 2007, Brian was appointed to the five-person Competition Policy Review Panel created by the Government of Canada to review key elements of Canada's competition and investment policies.
Brian first joined Osler’s Toronto office in 1976 and became partner in 1979. He left the firm in 1991 to become President and CEO of Imasco, positions he held until 2000. He returned to Osler in 2001 where he resumed his position as Co-Chair and subsequently opened the Montréal office that same year.
