Overview

Staying abreast of developments in Indigenous law and policy is critical for legal and business professionals in many industries across Canada. To help you stay current, Osler is pleased to present Indigenous Law Insights, a monthly webinar series.

Available live and on-demand, each 30 minute session will provide you with an update on recent court decisions, as well as pending and new legislative and policy developments. Members of our Indigenous Law group will deliver timely and practical information about what these developments mean for your business.

On Tuesday January 30th Osler associates Maeve O’Neill Sanger and Marleigh Dick will provide an overview on

  • Bill C-61, the proposed First Nations Clean Water Act, which would set a framework for First Nations’ jurisdiction in relation to source water, drinking water, wastewater and related infrastructure on First Nation lands and on designated adjacent lands.

  • BC’s Distinctions-Based Approach Primer released by the BC government in December 2023, which describes how BC’s relations and dealings with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit must be conducted in a manner that recognizes and respects the distinct and different histories, rights, laws, legal systems, and systems of governance of each group.
