Osler is proud to have helped AFC Toronto City become the third team to sign to the Canadian women’s pro soccer league.

Members of the firm’s Community Law team including Joyce Bernasek, partner in the Financial Services practice and Jennifer Humphrey and Handi Xu, associates in the Emerging and High Growth Companies Group, worked with the AFC Toronto group on the process.

“We are very proud of our partnership with the investors in the AFC Toronto City team and our shared commitment to support women,” says Joyce.

The league, which is aiming to have eight teams, already saw Vancouver and Calgary lock in as founding teams, with Toronto City being the first completely brand-new enterprise. The plan is to launch the league in 2025.

Diana Matheson, who is co-founder and CEO of the Project 8 group that is driving the new league, announced April 26 that AFC Toronto City is the third founding franchise to join the fold.

The partnership between Osler and AFC Toronto City is a testament to the commitment of both parties to empower women and promote equality in sports. Osler has long been committed to initiatives that promote the advancement of women.
