Osler is pleased to welcome Jesse Goldman and Matthew Kronby to the firm’s Competition, Trade and Foreign Investment practice group as partners based in Toronto.

Jesse advises Canadian and global clients on international trade and investment law matters, including trade remedies, free trade agreements, customs compliance and commodity tax planning, and compliance with cross-border and digital product regulation. He has appeared as lead counsel in many high-profile international trade and customs cases before Canadian courts and tribunals, including the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal.

At the leading edge of trade issues affecting businesses and governments in Asia for more than two decades, Jesse is the former chair of the International Trade Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, serves as a Canadian delegate to the International Chamber of Commerce Commission on Customs and Trade Facilitation and the Business Investment Advisory Committee Trade Committee and China Expert Group, and is a Canadian delegate to the B20. Jesse has authored numerous articles on international trade matters and appears frequently as a speaker and in media to discuss international trade events that affect businesses.

Matthew advises Canadian and global clients on all types of international trade issues, including trade and investment treaty disputes, trade remedy proceedings, economic sanctions and export control laws. Prior to joining Osler, Matthew was the Government of Canada’s chief trade lawyer, leading legal teams in disputes at the WTO, investment arbitrations under the NAFTA and free trade negotiations with the European Union, among many other roles.

Matthew teaches international trade and investment arbitration as an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and is co-chair of the International Bar Association’s International Trade and Customs Law Committee.
