Biography

Robert’s practice encompasses a broad range of civil litigation, including class actions and corporate and commercial matters. Robert joined the firm as a summer student in 2007 and articled with the firm in 2008-2009. During his articles, he was seconded to the Enforcement Branch of the Ontario Securities Commission for ten weeks.

Notable Matters

  • Groupon Inc. in a proposed class proceeding in which it is alleged that expiry dates on Groupon vouchers are not compliant with consumer protection legislation.
  • American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and AIG Financial Products Corp. in a proposed class proceeding brought on behalf of AIG shareholders under the Securities Act alleging misrepresentations in the financial statements and other public disclosures of AIG.
  • Dollar Financial Group, Inc. in a merits defence of class actions brought in Ontario and British Columbia.
  • General Electric Capital Canada in the appeal of a transfer-pricing matter concerning the cross-border pricing of debt guarantees.
  • General Motors of Canada Limited in the trial defence of a wrongful dismissal claim.

Robert Carson
