Osler is very pleased to announce that Patrick Marley, a partner in the firm’s Taxation Group, has been named the recipient of Bloomberg BNA’s prestigious Leonard L. Silverstein Award for International Taxation. Established in honour of Leonard Silverstein, the founder of the Tax Management Portfolios, the award recognizes long-standing contributions to the field of international tax. Patrick is the first Canadian recipient of the award.

“Receiving this year’s Leonard L. Silverstein Award is truly an unexpected honour,” says Patrick. “I have been fortunate to focus my career in international tax in ways that have allowed me to contribute to developments in the field that matter to governments, to taxpayers and citizens, and to those of us who have a passion for the subject. I am grateful for the opportunity to practise my trade with some of the country’s leading tax clients, and for my long involvement with Bloomberg BNA and the Tax Management Portfolios.”

A partner at Osler since 2004, Patrick advises on tax issues associated with international tax planning, domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, corporate finance and various other tax matters. He is consistently recognized by industry publications – such as The Best Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Global: Canada’s Leading Business Lawyers and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory – for his expertise in and contributions to taxation law. Patrick is a contributing editor for Tax Management Business Operations in Canada and is a regular contributor to Tax Management International Journal.

Firoz Ahmed and Monica Biringer, Osler’s Tax Co-Chairs describe Patrick as “a leader in the field of international tax, having been the lead Canadian tax advisor on numerous complex international transactions and written extensively on many international tax issues of significance."

“He is a highly valued member of our team,” they continue. “Congratulations, Patrick!”

Patrick and other recipients of Bloomberg BNA tax awards were honoured at the 2017 IFA Congress in Rio de Janeiro on August 28, 2017.
