Canada Energy Regulator rules in favour of Osler clients on Enbridge Mainline application

Nov 29, 2021

On Friday, November 26, the Commission of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) released its decision in connection with Enbridge’s Mainline Contracting Application, denying Enbridge’s application and adopted many of the arguments put forward by Osler on behalf of its clients as its reasons for doing so.

The CER’s decision is of significant importance to the entire North American oil industry because of the dominant position of Enbridge’s Mainline in getting Canadian production to U.S. and global markets.

Osler’s Regulatory Group was retained by Canadian Natural Resources, the Government of Saskatchewan and Inter Pipeline. The Calgary Regulatory Group was involved in representing Osler’s clients and was led by Martin Ignasiak, Sander Duncanson, Shawn Denstedt, and Jessica Kennedy.

The success of Osler’s regulatory team in representing multiple clients with aligned interests in this critical piece of regulatory work, with a very successful result, and it is a testament to the group’s ability to work collaboratively.
