Four Osler partners recognized in Benchmark Canada’s ‘Top 100 Women in Litigation’

Osler congratulates partners Maureen Killoran, KC, Mary Buttery, KC, Laura Fric and Teresa Tomchak for their inclusion in the 10th edition of Benchmark Canada’s “Top 100 Women in Litigation” 2023. This recognition highlights the best women litigators in Canada who frequently participate in impactful matters and have earned the respect of their clients and peers through expertise in their field.

Maureen, who serves as Osler’s National Co-Chair, practices out of both our Vancouver and Calgary offices. Her litigation practice is devoted to complex commercial disputes, with a particular emphasis on the resource industry. She regularly appears on matters of judicial review, regulatory appeal and environmental, administrative, constitutional, Charter and Indigenous claims in federal and provincial courts across the country. Maureen is widely regarded by clients, peers and numerous industry publications as one of Canada’s top litigators.

In May, Maureen was also named “Energy/Resources Litigator of the Year” at the 2023 Benchmark Litigation Canada Awards.

Mary is a partner in Osler’s Vancouver office. She is an experienced commercial litigator who specializes in complex multi-party commercial litigation, as well as class actions. She also has a demonstrated emphasis on restructuring and insolvency, the enforcement of foreign judgements and fraud. Mary has appeared in all levels of courts across the country, including as lead counsel at the Supreme Court of Canada. Mary has been recognized as a leader in her field by numerous legal directories, including Benchmark Canada, Chambers Canada and Best Lawyers in Canada.

Laura is a partner in Osler’s Toronto office. She is an experienced trial, appellate and class action lawyer who represents clients on their most challenging issues. Laura specializes in complex commercial litigation and has acted as lead counsel in a broad range of matters and defended many companies facing large class actions. She is consistently recognized for her leading expertise by Chambers Canada, Benchmark Canada and Best Lawyers in Canada.

Teresa is a partner in Osler’s Vancouver office. Her practice focuses on securities litigation and regulation, securities regulatory matters and securities class action defence. Teresa has worked on multiple shareholder disputes, hostile take-over bids and proxy fights. She has represented clients before various securities commissions for allegations of insider trading, illegal distributions, market manipulation, discretionary trading, suitability matters and fraud. Teresa is widely recognized as a leader in her field by industry publications including Benchmark Canada, Chambers Canada and Best Lawyers in Canada.
