Competition/Antitrust - Mergers & Acquisitions

Overview

As the pre-eminent mergers and acquisitions firm in Canada, our competition/antitrust lawyers cut their teeth
on transactions and have extensive experience rapidly and effectively navigating regulatory processes for all
manner of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, competitor collaborations and strategic alliances.

This is critical, as increasingly complex mandatory notification and merger review processes have resulted in more rigorous assessments of transactions by the Competition Bureau, placing greater importance on choosing experienced and effective counsel. We deliver both.

We have unparalleled bench strength on these critical matters and front-line experience in successfully managing all types and sizes of deals through the Competition Bureau review process, including many of the most complex transactions.

Managing complex transactions to ensure required approvals are obtained in a timely and cost-effective fashion requires early implementation of a carefully designed strategy to manage the risks of potentially detailed and burdensome production requests (including supplemental information requests), pro-actively address any competition issues in written and oral submissions to the Competition Bureau and work effectively with economic and other third party experts.

Controlling the costs of a complex competition matter requires careful process management. We are leaders in implementing best practices in project management and process improvement, and have extensive experience designing and implementing such processes in a wide range of transactions. We work closely with our clients to strategically design and execute a process that ensures flexibility, efficiency and cost predictability and containment.
