Osler is proud to announce the addition of 10 new partners and the appointment of a new counsel, effective March 1.

New partners

Osler is pleased to announce the addition of 10 new partners across four of our offices.

Toronto

The Toronto office welcomed seven new partners: Martino Calvaruso (Insolvency), David Davachi (Tax), Joanna Fine (Privacy), Alex Gorka (Corporate), Brian Gray (Corporate), Geoff Hunnisett (Litigation) and Lori Stein (Corporate).   

Martino practises corporate and commercial law focusing primarily on the areas of corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, debtor/creditor law and secured transactions.

David’s practice focuses on corporate tax planning, including the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, corporate finance and cross-border transactions, as well as tax dispute resolution.

A member of the Privacy and Data Management Group, Joanna advises clients on a wide range of privacy-compliance initiatives, including conducting privacy and security reviews and audits; drafting privacy policies, practices and procedures; and managing privacy/security breaches.

Alex’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities and advising special committees of boards of directors. He has completed two secondments to the Office of Mergers & Acquisitions of the Ontario Securities Commission.

Brian’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and general corporate matters.

Geoff’s corporate-commercial litigation practice includes expertise in class actions, domestic and international commercial arbitration, contractual disputes, franchise litigation, construction and infrastructure litigation, and tax litigation.

Lori is a member of the Investment Funds and Asset Management Group and advises portfolio managers, dealers, investment fund managers and institutional investors on Canadian securities regulatory matters.

Montréal

Alexandre Fallon (Litigation) is our new partner in Montréal. Alexandre has a broad litigation practice and advises clients in a wide range of industries on regulatory and statutory compliance.

Calgary

Our Calgary office adds a new partner in the Regulatory, Environmental, Aboriginal and Land Group with the addition of Sander Duncanson (REAL). Sander specializes in environmental, regulatory and Aboriginal law issues for natural resource developers.

Ottawa

Barry Fong (IP) is our new partner in Ottawa. Barry practises intellectual property law, with an emphasis on trademarks, domain names, anti-counterfeiting enforcement and copyright.

New counsel

Osler is proud to announce the admission of Evan Thomas to the role of counsel.

Based in Toronto, Evan is a member of Osler’s Litigation Group. His practice has a particular emphasis on class action defence, complex commercial litigation and arbitration matters. He focuses on cases involving technology and data, such as disputes involving data licensing, privacy, data security, IT projects, online defamation and protection of confidential information. He is also a member of Osler’s cross-disciplinary team advising on issues relating to blockchain technology and crypto-currencies, particularly with respect to potential regulatory enforcement and other risks.
