Alexandre has a broad litigation practice and also advises clients in a wide range of industries on regulatory and statutory compliance. As a litigator, Alexandre has acted in a wide range of corporate and commercial litigation, class actions, including securities class actions, employment and labour disputes, franchise litigation and in regulatory, environmental and aboriginal law matters.

As a trusted advisor on regulatory and statutory compliance, Alexandre is regularly called upon to advise on issues specific to consumer protection, employment and labour and compliance with the Québec Charter of the French Language. Alexandre has developed expertise specific to financial services, energy, marketing and distribution, and food products, particularly the regulated marketing of agricultural products.

Alexandre has appeared before the Québec agricultural and food products marketing board (the Régie des marches agricoles et alimentaires du Québec), the Québec energy board (the Régie de l’énergie), the Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission, a Canadian Judicial Council Inquiry Committee, various arbitral tribunals, the Court of Québec, the Québec Superior Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Québec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also advised clients appearing before the Québec environmental assessment board (the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement) and a Joint Review Panel constituted by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Canada. Alexandre regularly represents clients in their dealings with the board charged with overseeing compliance with the Charter of the French Language (the Office Québécois de la langue française) as well as the Québec consumer protection bureau (the Office de la protection du consommateur) and the Travel Industry Council of Ontario.

Alexandre taught various subjects in the North American Common Law Program at the Université de Montréal from 2013 to 2019 including torts, judicial remedies and trial advocacy.

    • Association of Ontario Chicken Processors, in a variety of proceedings before the Québec Superior Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Régie des marches agricoles et alimentaires du Québec and the Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission regarding the regulation of live chicken marketing in Québec and Ontario (see, for example, Éleveurs de volailles du Québec et Association of Ontario Chicken Processors, 2018 QCRMAAQ 24).
    • Veolia Health Operating Services Montréal L.P., in the context of its role as Service Provider for the maintenance of the new hospital facility of the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal.
      • Defending neighborhood disturbance and violation of zoning and environmental regulations claims before the Québec Superior Court in the context of residential development.
    • Bausch Health Companies Inc., before the Québec Superior Court and the Québec Court of Appeal, in relation to its defence against a securities class action and individual investor actions. 
    • The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, before the Québec Superior Court and the Québec Court of Appeal, in relation to its defence against three class actions regarding mortgage creditor insurance and life insurance (see, for example, Ehouzou c Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, 2019 QCCS 2017, Louisméus c Compagnie d’assurance-vie Manufacturers (Financière Manuvie), 2017 QCCS 3614 and Leroux c Compagnie d’assurance-vie Manufacturers, 2015 QCCS 4347).
      • Defending a partner and investment manager before the Québec Superior Court against injunctive proceedings, including an Anton Piller order, brought by the former employer in the context of the partner’s resignation from the asset management firm.
    • Lunettes Dépôt Inc., before the Québec Superior Court in the context of litigation with franchisees. Defending, before the Québec Superior Court, an application to enforce a foreign arbitral award.
    • Lightspeed POS Inc., before the Québec Superior Court, in relation to its defence against a copyright infringement claim.
