Alexandre’s practice focuses on litigation, including commercial litigation, class actions, arbitration, insolvency and restructuring, administrative law, constitutional law, consumer protection, environmental, regulatory and aboriginal law and compliance with the Québec Charter of the French Language.

In the course of his legal studies at the University of Sherbrooke, Alexandre worked as a law clerk for the Honourable Justice Léo Daigle of the Québec Superior Court and was a teaching assistant for professors Nathalie Vézina and Éliane-Marie Gaulin. He also did a study trip at the Aarhus University, in Denmark. During 2008-2009, he worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Justice Johanne Gauthier, then of the Federal Court. Alexandre currently teaches judicial remedies in the North American Common Law Program at the University of Montréal.

Alexandre has appeared before the Régie des marchés agricoles et alimentaires du Québec, a Canadian Judicial Council Inquiry Committee, various arbitral tribunals, the Court of Québec, the Québec Superior Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Federal Court, the Québec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also advised clients appearing before the Québec Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement and a Joint Review Panel constituted by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Canada. Alexandre regularly represents clients in their dealings with the Office québécois de la langue française.

  • Independent Counsel to the Canadian Judicial Council Inquiry Committee Regarding the Honourable Lori Douglas (Suzanne Côté, Ad. E., as she then was), in relation to the discharge of her mandate as Independent Counsel, including with respect to her intervention in judicial review proceedings before the Federal Court (see, for example, Douglas v Canada (AG), 2014 FC 299 and Douglas v Canada (AG), 2013 FC 451, [2014] 4 FCR 494).
  • General Motors of Canada Limited, before the Superior Court of Québec, in relation to various actions brought by former dealers following its out-of-court restructuring in 2009-2010 (see, for example, Parkway Pontiac Buick inc. c General Motors du Canada ltée, 2012 QCCS 618, JE 2012-547 and Parkway Pontiac Buick inc. c General Motors du Canada ltée, 2013 QCCS 2369).
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc., before the Superior Court of Québec and the Québec Court of Appeal, in the interim receivership of the Canadian assets of Georges Marciano (see, for example, Marciano (Séquestre de), 2012 QCCA 1881, [2012] RJQ 2001 and Marciano (Syndic de), 2013 QCCS 1533).
  • Imperial Tobacco Canada Limited, before the Québec Superior Court and the Québec Court of Appeal, in relation to its defence against two class actions regarding product liability, and in relation to the constitutional challenge to Québec tobacco specific legislation.
  • Bank of Montreal, Amex Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Toronto-Dominion Bank, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Bank of Nova Scotia, National Bank of Canada, Laurentian Bank of Canada and Citibank Canada before the Québec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, in the context of two class actions regarding foreign exchange currency conversion fees on credit card transactions, principally dealing with the constitutional applicability of the Québec Consumer Protection Act to banks (see, for example, Bank of Montreal v Marcotte, 2014 SCC 55 and Amex Bank of Canada v Adams, 2014 SCC 56).
  • Association of Ontario Chicken Processors, in a variety of proceedings before the Québec Superior Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Québec Régie des marchés agricoles et alimentaires regarding the regulation of live chicken marketing in Québec and Ontario (co-counsel with Turkstra Mazza Associates).
  • BMO Bank of Montreal, before the Québec Court of Appeal, in relation to its defence against an action in damages instituted by the Trustee in bankruptcy of TMI-Éducaction.com Inc.
  • Aveos Fleet Performance Inc., in relation to a major arbitration regarding the aborted implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning system.
  • A major oil and gas exploration and production company and an industry association in the context of the Bureau d’audiences publiques pour l’environnement public inquiry on the sustainable development of Québec’s shale gas industry and related matters regarding shale gas exploration activities in Québec.
  • A major electronics manufacturer, defending against claims brought by consumers pursuant to the Québec Consumer Protection Act.
